THE PREZ SAYS..... Greetings fellow cycling club members, Happy May is Bike Month. What is Bike Month you may ask? "May is National Bike Month in the United States, a celebration dedicated to promoting cycling as a fun, healthy, and environmentally friendly mode of transportation. Established in 1956 by the League of American Bicyclists, the month-long event encourages people to hop on their bikes, whether for commuting, recreation, or fitness Bike Month - League of American Bicyclists.(https://bikeleague.org/may-is-still-bike-month/). Throughout May, communities across the country host events like Bike to Work Day, group rides, and educational workshops to highlight the benefits of cycling. The goal is to inspire more people to embrace biking, reduce car trips, and foster a more bike-friendly culture. 🚴♂️ To embrace May is Bike Month, the Fresno County Bicycle Coalition and Fresno Cycling Club have teamed up to put on as many bicycling activities as we can. We encourage our members and the Bicycling Community to get involved in as many activities as you can. Encourage your friends and neighbors to join in on the activities with you. These are activities that really impress the folks that are making decisions about bicycle safety and infrastructure when they see a lot of bicyclists show up. See you on the road, on the gravel, or in the dirt. Cheers,

35TH ANNUAL KIRCH FLAT CENTURY AND RIDES
The Fresno Cycling Club is excited to invite all bicyclists to join us for the 35th Annual Kirch Flat Century and Rides on Saturday, May 10th. What started as a small group club ride with a ride leader, has grown over the years into a fully supported event with SAG (Support & Gear), five rest stops and six different routes with radio communication keeping our riders safe.
New this year, we have a new Start/Finish location. As such, we were able to add some more challenging routes. The Hilly Metric+ will be an 85 mile route, the Century+ will be 110 mile route and for those wanting a real challenge we added a 117 mile route with an extra 1000' of climbing, going all the way to Kirch Flat. We will still have the support that you have come to expect from the Fresno Cycling Club events with SAG, rest stops, communications and a delicious after-ride meal.

The Measure C 2026 Renewal is a plan to continue collecting this tax to support local transportation needs. As part of the renewal, a new Measure C Expenditure Plan will be developed to guide the use of these funds starting in April 2027. The plan will be shaped by input from Fresno County residents, ensuring that the funds are allocated in a way that best serves the community’s needs and priorities. This special FCC Membership Meeting will take place, Tuesday, May 13th at 6:00 PM at the Covis Transit Center located at 785 Third Street, Clovis, CA.
Join us to have your voice heard.

2025 Ride of Silence on Wednesday, May 21
Come join the Central Valley Cycling Community to remember those bicyclists who were involved in collisions with motor vehicles and suffered survivable injuries or suffered life-ending injuries.
In addition to honoring previous victims and families, this year we will also be honoring and remembering a 16-year-old boy, Sandro Lazo, who would have been a junior at Buchanan High School this year before his life was taken from him two weeks before the school year began.
This ride will differ from previous years by starting at the Buchanan High School Parking Lot (Teague/Minnewawa). We meet at 6:30 pm, remembrances and a moment of silence will begin at 6:45, and the ride starts at 7 pm.

CLIMB TO KAISER VOLUNTEERS
The 46th Climb to Kaiser is happening on Saturday, June 21st. We have volunteer opportunities for members and non-members. Even those riding the event can help us out if they have availability the day before or the day after the event. You can register for a particular job or, if you are not sure what to select, you can choose a day, and we will contact you to review possible options and what works with your schedule.
Volunteer Opportunities include:
Shopping for the rest stop supplies on Thursday, June 19th.
Pre-event set-up on Friday, June 20th. On Friday, we have volunteers marking the course, putting out signs, helping us retrieve items from storage, making the "ice run" to Costco, sorting supplies for the various rest stops, and rider registration.
Day of the Event, June 21st. Things kick off early with a two person crew to place road signs along the course. We also need help at the Rodeo Grounds with the post ride meal, clean-up and loading items onto trucks or trailers for delivery to the storage unit the following morning.
The Day after the Event, June 22nd. On this day, we return the bike racks, tables, pop-ups, and so on, back to the club storage unit. There are other miscellaneous jobs as well. Register here to help with this historic Fresno cycling event.

SAVE THE DATE FOR AUGUST 2ND AND 3RD Here's a quick quiz. Would you prefer to ride where the summer weather will likely be 105 to 110 or would you prefer to ride where the daily high will be closer to 70 degrees? For 2025 FCC is partnering up with Southern Sierra Cyclists for Climb the Coast. Climb the Coast is a club ride taking place on the central coast. There will be a club ride on Saturday, August 2nd and another one on Sunday, August 3rd. We are currently working on the course routes for the two different days. The rides could start as far south as SLO and as far north as Cambria. Both days will feature a rest stop with water and snacks and a SAG vehicle. There will be a minimal fee to cover the cost of the rest stop, SAG, and any other fees. There will be a strict limit of 60 riders. If this is of interest to you we recommend you start looking for lodging on the central coast sooner than later. Personally, I'm staying in Cambria so I'm close to Linn's Restaurant for pancakes with Olallieberry syrup. All club members will receive an email once the final details and routes have been worked out and we open registration. We will also have more information in future issues of the Rough Draft.
