THE PREZ SAYS.....
Hello Fresno Cycling Club members. Many of you have been with the club for years and help keep it active through rides and events. The club has existed since 1962; some longtime members may still be riding. It seems we have many newer riders that tend to come and go depending on their life situations. For example, prior to Covid membership was 700 to 800, then after Covid it a high of 1,200 plus members but since then it has dwindled and stays between 500 to 550. There are many reasons for the drop in membership. Two main factors are that people stop riding or move away. If we want to see our Club continue to thrive, we need to commit to reaching out to our friends and neighbors to go riding with us and share the advantages of Club Membership.
October was busy with two major events: the 20th Annual Bass Lake Powerhouse Double Century and the Tour de Femme Ride & Club Picnic. The Double Century was part of the Stage Race series, attracting 140 riders, and was well-supported by volunteers. Eight riders did not finish, underscoring the challenge. Both rides were well-organized, enjoyable, and benefited from great weather. If you missed them, you missed out on some memorable events. Kudos to our Ride Directors Gia Parker on the BLPDC and Janet Lucido on the Tour De Femme and Picnic for putting together these great events.
This year’s favorable weather looks set to last another month, but shorter fall days mean afternoon rides may be in the dark. Be sure your bike lights are charged—a white front light is required, and a rear red reflector is mandatory, with a rear red light recommended for better visibility.
Our monthly birthday rides continue to be popular, with November’s ride coming on Saturday November 8th .
Mark you calendar for Black Friday Sale on 2026 Climb to Kaiser registration on Nov 28, 2025 and Cyber Monday Dec 1, 2026. As always, ride safe and ride legal.
The Prez

SACRAMENTO BIKE RIDE NOVEMBER 7, 8, & 9
AUTUMN IS HERE. That means that it is time to go to Sacramento to have a great ride on the American River Bike Path and watch the salmon run. We will be staying at the Best Western Sandman Motel, 236 Jibboom St, Sacramento CA 95814 (Ph# (916) 443-6515), and this will be our starting point. We will be arriving on Friday the 7th, and then on Saturday the 8th we will be riding to Folsom via Nimbus. Distance is 35-50 miles. The ride starts at 8:30, so you can just drive up for the day. Lunch is at a wonderful café, Karen’s. Lunch may vary depending on weather conditions and sunlight. Everything is homemade. Possible ride on Sunday the 9th, if there is enough interest. You can always stop at the Ghirardelli chocolate outlet on the way home. You have earned it. Lots to do for non-riding family members (yes there is an IKEA and an outlet mall), also a Museum next door to the Hotel. Old Town Sacramento is within walking distance. Please call or e-mail to confirm that you are coming. Ride will cancel if no response by Wednesday the 5th. More Information? Call Ken Herrington at 559-299-2275 or e-mail campyherrington@sbcglobal.net .

Fresno World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims
On Sunday, November 16 at 1:00 p.m., families of traffic crash victims, politicians and street safety advocates will gather at city hall to commemorate World Day of Remembrance for Road Traffic Victims and to call for safer streets with room for all users of our roads, including pedestrians and bicyclists. This event is one of hundreds happening across the U.S.,which is continuing to experience elevated traffic fatalities even as national numbers are beginning to decline – after the highest number of deaths amongst people walking in 40 years. In Fresno, we have seen a number of horrifying incidents. This year, 21 people on bikes and on foot have been lost so far amid 2,790 total collisions, an encouraging improvement from the 26 lives lost last year as of September 30, 2025.
