Greetings Fresno Cycling Club Members!
It was nice to see all who attended this year’s Annual Christmas/Holiday Party. It was a great time of fun and fellowship. It is always rewarding to connect with our fellow riders and reflect on our rides and accomplishments of the year.
THOUGHTS ON 2023 & 2024
A New Year is an opportunity for us to do a reset and make changes in our lives. To do that, we must look at where we are and envision how it could be different. This can apply to all aspects of our lives, but since we are bicyclists, here are a few things to consider:
- Has bicycling become a big part of your life? Are you passionate about it and how it makes you feel physically and mentally?
- Have you thought about how your bicycling can be improved?
- Have you set riding goals for 2024, i.e., # of events or # of rides?
- How can the Club help you reach your goals?
All great questions if you want to have a successful fun year of cycling. It may not be necessary to have a "structured plan" if you just want to get out and ride your bike. The Club can help you either way, by joining in on our weekly group rides and putting in the miles. Check the ride calendar often or get involved in one of the regular ride groups.
Let us not forget the dear friends and loved ones who we tragically lost this past year in bicycle vs vehicle collisions. Please keep their families in your thoughts and prayers. I've put together a list of cycling tips that I call "Ride Better Tips". Please take the time to review them, talk about them with your fellow cyclists, and let me know if you'd like to add some tips to the list. See Dennis' Ride Better Tips!
Have a safe and prosperous New Year.
That's all for now.
The Prez
Dennis Ball

This is an all-level ride to Lost Lake for hot coco, coffee, snacks, fun and fellowship.
Riders are free to ride beyond Lost Lake to either Spring Valley School, the Back Side of Millerton, the Circuit, the Tesoro loop (gravel ride) or just return to Stevens.
The ride is free to everyone, but non-members must also register and approve the waiver.

FCC ANUAL MONTEREY 17 MILE DRIVE RIDE - Saturday, Jan 13
Date: January 13, 2024. Meet at Jewell Park, 578 Central Avenue, Pacific Grove at 9:30, ride at 10 am.
17 mile drive. Lunch at From Scratch in Carmel. 34 miles. No drop. B ride level. No cost. Registration required - https://fresnocycling.com/event-5477802
This is our 8th year coordinating this ride. We have been rained out a couple of times, but every year otherwise has had amazing weather! Everyone rides along the 17 Mile Drive route to lunch. We split up into several groups depending on speed of the riders. This works well so we do not inundate the restaurant and all show up at once!
On the way back after lunch we offer two routes. Back the way we came or the “high route”, which adds a little bit of climbing. This is an enjoyable ride that Jim and I love leading.
Because we start at 10 a.m., the ride can be a day trip for those who do not want to stay over. We hope to see you there!

EVERYONE LOVES RAYMOND GRAVEL RIDES - Saturday, Mar 23
FCC’s gravel event, Everyone Loves Raymond (ELR) will be held on March 23, 2024. As it has in the past, the event will be based at Footman Park in Raymond. 2024 will be the sixth edition for ELR, with the first being 2018.
Registration is open for all three of our routes. Riders can choose from the 90 mile “Kegger”, the “Growler” at 60 miles, and the “Pint” which is 35 miles (but punches above its weight).
FCC is known for its well supported events, and ELR has been no exception.
Riders have loved the fun and friendly atmosphere that we have tried to encourage, and our volunteers are the heart and soul of that effort.
Sadly, we lost some of that heart and soul this past year. Our dear friend Bill Reddington suddenly passed away in September, and he will be greatly missed by the ELR family. Bill gave a great deal of time and hard work to help make our ride successful, and we know that ELR was a labor of love for him.

BEGINNER/NEW TO GRAVEL GROUP RIDES
Are you looking for rides that cater to newer gravel riders?
FCC hosts group rides focusing on riders who fit this description. In 2024 we are hoping to offer such rides on a regular basis, about once a month. These rides are easy paced on gentle dirt surfaces and usually last about an hour. The rides are no drop and regroup frequently. If you don’t have a gravel bike, your mountain bike will also
work fine on these rides.
Check the FCC calendar (https://www.fresnocycling.com/Ride-Calendar) and also the FCC All Roads Facebook group. (https://www.facebook.com/groups/1613253885374386) for listings. Our first ride will be on January 7. Check the calendar for
details.
